Sustainability consultants Pure Strategies have put out a solid and important piece of research called "The Path to Product Sustainability".
From their research they draw two basic insights:
- Companies committed to product sustainability enjoy the benefits of manufacturing cost savings, brand enhancement, employee engagement and other important financial and organizational value.
- Top performing companies are doing things differently - they have a different level of commitment, internal information they generate, and integration of sustainability into core processes.
The Pure Strategies study was based on a survey with 100 global consumer product companies involved in product sustainability and in-depth interviews with heads, directors and managers of sustainability at companies implementing best practices, including RB, Coca-Cola, Henkel and Timberland.
This post in GreenBiz summarizes key findings.
